Metal case and solid construction. Power consumption is low. This purchase replaces a NetGear switch in our home wiring closet that died in less than 2 years.

Great to find this product available in-store. I had to add a computer to my network, exceeding the capacity of my old 4-port switch. This unit is a gigabyte switch, which is an upgrade on my network that will enable higher speed connections on three other machines. Priced just a tad higher than the 10/100 switch, it's higher speed capability added value that far exceeds the difference in the price.

Without a router, this products is useless for all but one port. If you call manufacturer you are informed of this fact, along with a pitch for purchasing a $125 router at half price if you act quickly. This means you would be giving your credit card information to some stranger. With a modem and router, supposedly this product could provide as many as 11 ports. If that is true, how many people need 11 ports?
